Let’s be clear: it’s NOT all in your head

It’s a persistent misconception, but don’t get sucked in. It’s not ‘all in your head’. Physiological symptoms are real and learning about your mind-body connection is the key to influence and change them.

Many people who I work with have often been dealing with chronic conditions for a while, sometime even years.

It’s a common story I hear, they’ve tried many things to recover and spoken to many specialists. The blood tests come back normal; they can’t find anything wrong in the labs. You get the message ‘maybe it’s all in your head?’, ‘oh and you’re a bit upset about life right now - here, have some antidepressants.’

Awful, right? Unfortunately, it’s a real experience for so many. It was for me. I remember thinking, ‘yeah life sucks right now, I’ve got chronic fatigue and pain, I can’t work, I don’t know what the future holds, of course I’m upset! But antidepressants aren’t the solution to my problems, I need to work out how to heal.’

A huge misconception

This message that ‘it’s all in your head’, whether alluded to or told to you directly, is a huge misconception. With all the knowledge available to us in 2022, it’s surprising how this continues to trickle through. Let’s be clear, the symptoms, the pain, and fatigue are real experiences.

What’s really going on here

We now know the mind and the body are not separate, they are actually deeply connected. Think about how your cheeks flush red when you feel embarrassed or if your palms sweat when you feel nervous. What’s going on in your mind produces physiological changes in the body. The interesting question then becomes, how can I use my brain differently to influence and change my physiological symptoms?

You can retrain your brain and body to heal

You can learn how to retrain your brain and body to heal. It’s what I did to fully recover from chronic fatigue and chronic pain, and it’s what I now teach my clients to do in the Lightning Process. If you’re interested in finding out more, please get in touch.
